Gaza Hospital patients are increasingly threatened, the blockade of Israel on food and other supplies entering the enclave is entering its third month.

The Palestinians of Gaza find it difficult to eat and, with hospitals unable to provide food, families must bring everything they can find for their loved ones.

“Most, if not all, injured patients have lost weight, especially in the past two months,” said Dr. Khaled Alserr, general surgeon of Nasser hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis.

Nutritional supplements for patients in the intensive care unit are lacking, he said. “Our hands are linked when it comes to making the best choice for patients. The choices are limited. “

Aid groups say that malnutrition is increasing through Gaza.

Thousands of children were found with acute malnutrition in the last month, but adults do not receive appropriate nutrients, according to the United Nations. He estimates that 16,000 pregnant women and new mothers this year face acute malnutrition.

Since the start of the blockade of Israel on March 2, food sources have been decreasing.

The aid groups have stopped the distribution of food. The bakeries have closed. Charity kitchens distributing bowls of pasta or lenses remain the last life buoy for most of the population, but they quickly close the lack of supplies, according to the UN.

The markets are empty of almost everything, but canned and small amounts of vegetables, and prices have increased.

Local vegetable production has dropped because Israeli forces have damaged 80% of the agricultural land in Gaza, known as the UN, and a large part of the rest is inaccessible in the newly declared military areas.

Israel says he imposed the blockade and resumed his military campaign in March to put pressure on Hamas to release his captives and disarm remaining.

Israeli officials said enough food entered Gaza during a two-month-old ceasefire earlier this year. Rights defense groups have challenged this and described the blockade as “famine tactics” and a potential war crime.

Now, Israel plans to control the distribution of assistance in Gaza, using private entrepreneurs to distribute supplies.

The UN and other aid groups have rejected the idea, saying that it could restrict who is eligible to give and receive aid and could force a large number of Palestinians to move, which would violate international law.

People under cages in hospitals and their families who meet to feed them would be confronted with new challenges as part of the Israel proposal. Moving to reach help could be out of the question.

The War of Israel against Gaza killed at least 52,829 Palestinians and injured 119,554, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. The Enclave Government Media Bureau has updated the number of deaths at more than 61,700, saying that thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead.

It is estimated that 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the attacks led by Hamas on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 were taken in captivity.
