The Undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, Yousef Abu Al-Rish, said today, Wednesday, that the Israeli army is using civilians trapped in Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip as “human shields.”

Abu Al-Rish added, in statements to Anadolu Agency, that the Israeli occupation forces interrogated the detainees under torture and severe beating and subjected them to the extreme cold after storming the hospital yesterday, Tuesday.

He revealed that after the occupation released a number of detainees at Kamal Adwan Hospital, they opened fire on them and injured 5 people.

For his part, Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra said that the occupation is still targeting the hospital, besieging it, preventing exit from it, and cutting off water, food, and electricity.

He pointed out that there are 12 children in intensive care and the medical teams cannot provide them with milk meals, due to the lack of safe drinking water.

Ashraf said that the raid came about a week after the Israeli army imposed a total siege on the hospital, which included bombing operations that claimed the lives of some Palestinians.

He added that the Israeli occupation forces gathered the males, including the medical staff, in the hospital courtyard, and we fear that they and the medical staff will be arrested, or liquidated.

The occupation forces arrested the hospital director, Ahmed Al-Kahlot.

Ashraf Al-Qudra called on the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and the International Committee of the Red Cross to act immediately, to save the lives of those in the hospital and protect them.

On December 5, the Ministry of Health in Gaza announced that the Israeli forces penetrating the northern Gaza Strip had taken Kamal Adwan Hospital out of service “by force, terrorism, and tank nozzles,” after besieging and bombing it for several days.

Palestinian medical sources reported on the same day that the Israeli army bombed with artillery and drones the vicinity of Kamal Adwan Hospital, which led to martyrs and a power outage, according to the official news agency (Wafa).

The Israeli army is escalating its targeting of all hospitals in the Gaza Strip, coinciding with a devastating war it is waging on Gaza, which, as of Tuesday evening, has left 18,412 dead and 50,100 injured, most of them children and women, massive destruction of infrastructure, and an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, according to official sources.
