An Israeli strike on a school transformed into a shelter left at least 18 dead in Nouseirat. Ceasefire talks are expected to resume in the coming days in Qatar.
Transformed into a shelter for displaced people, this school in Nouseirat, in the center of the Gaza Strip, was the target of bombings by the Israeli army on Thursday. The toll is heavy: at least 18 dead, mainly women and children, and dozens injured.
Since the start of this war, attacks on schools have been recurrent. At the end of September, France expressed its indignation after Israeli strikes on several schools in the space of a week. The IDF, which claims to target terrorists, regularly accuses Hamas members of hiding among civilians.
As deaths pile up and nothing seems to stop this war, hope for a ceasefire was revived this week.
American and Israeli negotiators will meet in Doha for mediation, according to the Qatari Prime Minister, who specifies that mediators would have “resumed contact” with Hamas after the death of Yahya Sinouar. Hamas, for its part, says it is ready for talks if Israel commits to a ceasefire.
In the meantime, in the Gaza Strip, faced with the violence of the bombings, Civil Defense has announced that it is no longer able to continue its activities in the north of the enclave.
