In the city of Khan Yunis, south of the Gaza Strip, and on the ruins of her home destroyed in the Israeli war on the Strip, Palestinian teacher Israa Abu Mustafa set up an educational tent for children, defying the harsh conditions left by the war that has been ongoing since October 7, 2023.
Israa had no choice but to resume teaching children who had been kept out of school because of the war, despite the huge challenges she faced. There are no suitable places to study in Gaza and no basic educational materials.
The Palestinian teacher defied the psychological pressures that children face due to war, by organizing recreational activities and educational lessons for the Palestinian curriculum, to ensure the continuity of education and achieve a balance between fun and learning.
Inside this tent, which lacks basic educational tools, children gather to repeat the letters of the Arabic language aloud, overcoming the sounds of Israeli planes and airstrikes that fill the place.
In this modest tent, the teacher gave hope to the children’s families that they could resume their studies and acquire as much knowledge as possible with the least resources available to them.
