The leader of the state camp, Benny Gantz, called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to remove Nissim Faturi, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, from his position and condemn his statements in which he said that Israeli demonstrators against government policies are an arm of the Hamas movement.
Gantz considered that Fattore’s talk about the demonstrators was reprehensible, and a person should be appointed in his place who respects the State of Israel, he said, adding that Netanyahu’s failure to condemn the statements of the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset would mean that he approved of them.
Fatori, a member of the Knesset from the ruling Likud Party, criticized the demonstrations that took place in Jerusalem last night, and said in a radio interview this morning that the Hamas movement has two arms, the first of which is represented by what he called evil saboteurs and child killers, and the other is represented by the Israeli demonstrators.
For its part, the Kaplan force, which leads part of the demonstrations in Israel, expressed its anger at Fattore’s statements and considered them a dangerous incitement that would tear apart the people under the direction of Netanyahu. It also expressed its rejection of the comparison between the terrorist Hamas movement, as it described it, and volunteers and conscripts.
The Kaplan force called on Knesset members to condemn Fattore’s statements in an inexplicable manner.
Demonstrations, arrests, and injuries
Last night, the city of Jerusalem witnessed a major demonstration in which tens of thousands participated in front of the Knesset building, demanding the overthrow of the Israeli government and setting a date for early general elections.
The Israeli police said that they arrested 9 people on Gaza Street in Jerusalem during a demonstration calling for the overthrow of the government, adding that hundreds of demonstrators carried out violent riots, as some of them attacked policemen, others set fires in the road, and protesters stormed the fences.
The police considered the protests illegal, and dispersed the demonstrators, using force and waste water hoses, resulting in the injury of at least 3 people, and a number of police officers were slightly injured.
The police explained that the demonstrators were allowed to demonstrate during the evening hours in the Knesset area, but they forcefully broke through the police barriers far away on Gaza Street and tried to penetrate the police barriers near the Prime Minister’s house, in an attempt to approach the house.
