The president who died in his helicopter crash will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday evening.
Thousands of supporters of the Iranian regime marched through the streets of the city of Tabriz in the northwest of the country to pay tribute to President Ebrahim Raïssi, killed in a helicopter crash on Sunday.
A vehicle carried the bodies of President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of East Azerbaijan province, a senior cleric from Tabriz, a Revolutionary Guards official and three members of ‘crew.
President Raissi’s body will then be taken to the Shiite pilgrimage city of Qom before being transported to the capital Tehran where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will offer prayers in a farewell ceremony.
The president will be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday evening.
Other Iranians who participated in the protests following the death of Mahsa Amini expressed their “joy” after the death of the president.
