Recent developments in the Gaza Strip have revealed Israel’s revival of the Netzarim axis, a strategic military axis that separates the north of the Strip from its center and south.
According to a report prepared for Tel Aviv Tribune by Salam Khader, this axis, also known as Road 749, dates back to a plan drawn up by Ariel Sharon in 1971 as part of his strategy for dealing with Gaza.
In mid-February, Israel began implementing field steps to reactivate this axis, claiming that the goal was to facilitate the movement of military vehicles.
Over time, the axis expanded to about 4 kilometers wide and 7 kilometers long, with 4 military bases established along its length.
