A British doctor who recently visited Gaza recounted his painful observations in the Strip as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression, expressing his astonishment at the inability of the Palestinians to reach Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Doctor Muhammad Taher said in a video interview published by the Wadi Hilweh Human Rights Information Center in Jerusalem that he arrived in the Gaza Strip about 3 weeks ago, with the aim of helping in treating the wounded and injured through his specialty in bones and peripheral nerves.

He added that he had been following what was happening in Gaza for months, and then he witnessed the difficult circumstances up close and witnessed “faith, humanity, steadfastness, tragedy, and the deaths of women, children, and the elderly.”

Taher continued, “Many days I ask myself how this matter happened while the Arab nation watched and did not move.”

The British doctor of Iraqi origin says that his heart is sad to leave Gaza, yet he feels happy to have the opportunity to help his brothers in the Strip.

He mentioned one of the cases that a 13 or 14 year old boy dealt with. He was hungry and opened a can of tuna fish. It was packed with explosives and exploded in it, cutting off his hands. He was then forced, as a doctor, to amputate his legs after they were poisoned, despite all attempts to help him and treat him, “and this is a painful thing.”

The British doctor continues that this child “lived, but other children died. The killing of children remains on my mind and pains me.”

Regarding his visit to Al-Aqsa Mosque, he said that it is “a place that God has blessed around,” expressing his astonishment that the people of Palestine and the people of Gaza do not have the right to access the mosque.
