The exercise began in Bayonne, France, where “attackers” staged an attack before fleeing to San Sebastián, Spain, where they took hostages, according to a statement from the Spanish National Police describing the exercise. exercise.

Police units activated protocols for handling such incidents during the surprise exercise aimed at improving response capabilities. The exercise, known as Operation Optimus, was supervised in Spain by the General Information Commission. Various units participated, including Special Security Operations Groups (GOES), Mine Clearance Teams (TEDAX-NRBQ), Dog Teams and Forensic Teams.

Coordination points were established in Paris, Bayonne, Madrid and San Sebastián to ensure effective communication and operations between the two national forces.

The French government is using around 20,000 soldiers and more than 40,000 police officers to provide security for the Olympics in Paris. It will also benefit from the support of around 2,000 soldiers and police from other countries.

The Summer Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11 and will be followed by the Paralympics.
