“This is a real problem because accidents have already happened and we are trying to anticipate them.“, deplores Hugo Pastorello, site manager.
But labor law is changing and heatwaves are now considered a reason for technical unemployment, as is already the case for frost, wind or snow. When the heat is too strong on the construction site, workers can go home.
“We still have to come to the site during the day and find that it is too hot to work. Then we have to send the workers home, but they will be paid as if they had worked.” explains Hugo Pastorello.
This change in labor law, which only applies to the construction sector, is good news for these employees.
“It is important to improve the health of workers, of everyone. I am young, but there are perhaps people older than me and it is more complicated for them.” explains a worker.
According to a study, beyond 32 degrees, work productivity decreases by 40%.
