France calls on the Security Council to adopt a new resolution on Gaza News

France considered that the UN Security Council must adopt a new resolution on the war in the Gaza Strip, stressing the need to stop the Israeli attacks on the city of Rafah, south of the Strip, in compliance with the decision of the International Court of Justice.

Referring to an urgent session held by the United Nations Council this evening regarding Rafah, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “Given the seriousness of the situation, France considers it more necessary than ever for the Council to adopt a new resolution, and these operations in Rafah must stop.” In implementation of the order of the International Court of Justice.

The Ministry indicated that the Council must allow the United Nations to play its role in the Gaza Strip to respond to the immediate needs of the population, in addition to allowing the Palestinians to rule the lands that should be an integral part of their state.

Yesterday, Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his anger at the Israeli raids on refugee camps in Rafah. He said, “These operations must stop, and there are no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians. I call for full respect for international law and an immediate ceasefire.”

This came despite the fact that France announced, since the beginning of the attack on October 7, its broad support for Israel and what it said was its right to self-defense.

Meanwhile, massacres continue targeting the displaced in Rafah. Within 48 hours since the evening of the day before yesterday, Sunday, Israel killed 72 displaced people in 3 massacres targeting their tents in areas west of Rafah Governorate, which Tel Aviv claimed were safe, according to the government media office in Gaza.

The recent massacres took place in Rafah despite the International Court of Justice, with the approval of 13 of its members versus the rejection by two members, on Friday, of new temporary measures demanding that Israel immediately stop its attack on Rafah and keep the Rafah crossing open to facilitate the entry of aid into Gaza, and submit a report to the court within a month on the steps it has taken in This regard.

These new measures came from the court, which is the highest judicial body in the United Nations, in response to a request from South Africa as part of a comprehensive lawsuit filed at the end of December 2023, accusing Tel Aviv of committing genocide crimes in Gaza.

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left more than 117,000 Palestinians dead or wounded, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing amid massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly.

Israel continues this war, ignoring a Security Council resolution demanding that it stop the fighting immediately, and orders from the Court of Justice demanding that it stop its attack on Rafah, and take immediate measures to prevent acts of genocide and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
