The Secretary General of the Elysée, Alexis Kohler, announced Thursday evening the composition of the new French government, a few days after the appointment of Gabriel Attal as Prime Minister, replacing Elisabeth Borne.

Several ministers were kept in their posts: Bruno Le Maire at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Gérald Darmanin at the Ministry of the Interior and Overseas Territories, Eric Dupond-Moretti at the Ministry of Justice, Christophe Béchu at the ministry of the ecological transition.

Amélie Oudéa-Castéra takes over the Ministry of Education. Six months before the Paris Olympic Games, she is also keeping her Sports portfolio.

The big surprise of the day came from the appointment of Rachida Dati, a right-wing figure, to the post of Minister of Culture.

Catherine Vautrin is appointed Minister of Labor, Health and Solidarity. Sébastien Le Cornu is appointed Minister of the Armed Forces. Stéphane Séjourné, the boss of Renaissance and head of the Renew group in the European Parliament, becomes Minister of Foreign Affairs. Marc Fesneau is appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty. Sylvie Retailleau is appointed Minister of Higher Education and Research.

Prisca Thévenot is appointed government spokesperson and responsible for Democratic Renewal. Marie Lebec is appointed Minister Delegate responsible for Relations with Parliament. Finally, Aurore Bergé is appointed Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men and the Fight against Discrimination.

The first Council of Ministers of the new Attal government will be organized late Friday morning.
