The former head of Israeli Military Intelligence (AMAN), Aharon Zeevi Farkash, stated that the goals set by Israel in the Gaza Strip are unrealistic, and he believed that the war would not end unless the detainees were returned.

Farkash said in statements to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper on Monday, “We have begun to destroy Hamas, but in the meantime there is a decisive challenge. It is impossible to end the war without the return of the kidnapped people.”

The government of Benjamin Netanyahu had set the goals of its war on Gaza as eliminating the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and returning Israeli prisoners, but it was unable to achieve any of its goals, in addition to incurring heavy losses in troops and equipment.

Earlier today, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said that the government was considering a settlement that proposed transferring Hamas leaders abroad with the aim of ending the war, which was considered a reduction of Netanyahu’s declared ambitions.

The Israeli government has repeatedly repeated that it seeks to liquidate Hamas leaders, led by the movement’s head in Gaza, Yahya al-Sinwar, and the leader of its military wing, Muhammad al-Deif. It has also allocated financial rewards to anyone who provides information about their whereabouts.

Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that left 20,674 martyrs and 54,536 wounded, according to data from the Ministry of Health in the Strip as of Monday evening.
