Despite his return to competition after psychological problems, Burnley striker Lyle Foster is not part of the list of South African players selected for the African Cup of Nations, according to the list unveiled Thursday, December 28 by the Federation South African football.

The 23-year-old started Tuesday in the defeat against Liverpool (0-2), but South Africa, under the advice of Burnley coach Vincent Kompany, did not retain the player for CAN 2024 .

Lebo Mothiba is the other absent from the list of Belgian Hugo Broos, who led Cameroon to victory at CAN-2017. The Strasbourg striker injured his knee on December 17 against Lorient in the French Championship. The 27-year-old, who had surgery the day after a broken left kneecap, will be absent for several months.

Foster and Mothiba are the only South African internationals to play in all five major European leagues.

In Ivory Coast, Bafana Bafana will be in group E alongside Mali, Namibia and Tunisia.
