Russian opposition figure Alexeï Navalny, recently transferred to a remote penal colony in the Arctic, appeared in a hearing concerning his complaints about his conditions of detention.
Imprisoned Russian opponent Alexei Navalny appeared on video for the first time since his transfer to the IK-3 penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets region in December 2023, more than 1,900 kilometers from Moscow.
This video appearance was followed by several journalists, gathered at the Kovrovsky court, in the Vladimir region, where Alexeï Navalny was to appear for a hearing concerning his complaints about his conditions of detention.
The 47-year-old activist is serving a 19-year prison sentence for “extremism and fraud”. Accusations that Alexeï Navalny has always denied.
In Western countries, his conditions of detention, and in particular their consequences on his physical state, are strongly denounced.
