A sky completely covered by smoke, and houses engulfed in flames. The forest fires that have ravaged Los Angeles in recent days have killed at least ten people and left neighborhoods in ruins.

According to data from the California Fire Department, more than two thousand buildings were destroyed or damaged in the two main centers, Pacific Palisades and Eaton.

Fueled by violent winds, these fires caused scenes of chaos in the second largest city in the United States.

Desperate residents are trying to escape the flames which have spread out of control.

In total, more than 130,000 people have been evacuated since the start of these fires. With the winds weakening, authorities hope that the situation will calm down.

Hundreds of firefighters were mobilized to put out these flames, which caused considerable damage.

Upscale neighborhoods were affected, notably in Pacific Palisades, known for its multi-million dollar villas.

Some celebrities have had their homes destroyed.

In Hollywood, several filming operations were interrupted and the Universal Studios theme park was closed.

For Donald Trump, the person responsible for this catastrophe is none other than Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California.

The president-elect accuses him of poor water management, while several fire hydrants are dry, which slows down the work of firefighters.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, it was one of the most destructive natural disasters in the city’s history.

These fires, unusual for the season, are notably due to a severe drought: over the last six months, only 4 millimeters of rain have fallen in Los Angeles.

According to a recent UN report, the number of fires is likely to increase significantly in the coming years, in the United States, but also in the rest of the world.
