The firefighting teams arrested yesterday evening, Saturday, the extension of the burning forest fires in Lattakia countryside on various axes, 10 days after the fire was burned in several locations from the Syrian coastal mountains.
The Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed Al -Saleh, said that the scene began to change with the decline in smoke density and the receipt of foci of fire, indicating in a tweet on the X platform that civil defense teams and firefighting regiments, along with Turkish and Arab teams, continued to work extensively to extinguish the remaining burning foci and implement comprehensive cooling operations.
The fires witnessed by the forests in Lattakia within 10 days destroyed at least 15,000 hectares of forests and agricultural lands.
More than 150 civil defense teams, volunteer teams are equipped with 300 firefighting mechanisms, and specialized teams from Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar and Turkey.
Al -Saleh said that the evaluation of the working room indicates that the conditions gradually tend towards full control of fires, while continuing the limited threats due to the wind movement, noting that “the teams are pursuing extensively the work of extinguishing the remaining burning foci and cooling what has been extinguished, explaining that” according to the current data, the conditions are directed towards control and then moving to comprehensive cooling operations. “
Al -Saleh continued, “There are still threats because of the wind movement, but we are seeking to prevent any renewed fire, and we would not reach this stage without the success of God and then the unity of efforts, higher coordination, and wide popular support, and the support of Turkish, Jordanian, Lebanese, Iraqi and Qatari firefighting teams.”
The firefighting teams faced great difficulties in facing fires, most notably the active winds that contributed to the sudden expansion of the fire, and the presence of mines and warships that cause frequent explosions, and constitute a direct threat to the cadres operating on the ground.
Regional coordination
The Syrian Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management and the Governor of Lattakia, Muhammad Othman, conducted the Iraqi Civil Defense delegation, the Qatari Lekhwiya team, and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Administration Authority “Avad” coordinating a plan to support efforts to put out the fires of Latakia countryside.
The meetings dealt with the evaluation of the current procedures taken to combat fires, and ways to enhance joint coordination to contain the spread of fires and extinguish it.
Wild firefighting teams from Turkey, Jordan and Iraq participate in extinguishing operations, with air support via planes from Syria, Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon, with the arrival of Qatari rescue and firefighting teams yesterday that includes homes and firefighters, and 138 human cadres, in support of the efforts to extinguish forest fires in Latakia countryside.
