Budgetary tensions within the European Union are jeopardizing the new aid plan for Ukraine. American aid has also not yet been released by Congress.
Budgetary tensions within the European Union are jeopardizing the new aid plan for Ukraine. This provides financial aid of 50 billion euros over four years, and must be put to a vote at a summit on December 14 and 15.
Moscow, which is closely following the discussions, believes that it is increasingly difficult for Europe to finance Kyiv’s war effort.
“This is a question that concerns Europeans themselves. It is clear that it is becoming more and more difficult to put money into Ukrainian bottomless pits. As for us, our economy has adapted to the conditions of the special military operation and provides the regime necessary for its continuation” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
For its part, the White House is trying to convince Congress to approve a new $60 billion emergency plan for Ukraine. This includes deliveries of arms and ammunition, as well as aid for reconstruction and development in regions devastated by the war.
For several months, the United States has been in the greatest budgetary limbo, due to parliamentary turbulence. Congress has still not voted on a budget for the fiscal year that began on October 1.
