The father of Tel Aviv Tribune journalist Anas al-Sharif was killed in an Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza.
Al-Sharif told Tel Aviv Tribune that his father, Jamal, 65, was killed on Monday after his house in the Jabalia refugee camp was attacked.
“My beloved father became a martyr. To God we belong and to Him we will return,” al-Sharif wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Tel Aviv Tribune media network condemned the attack in a statement.
“The Network expresses its most sincere condolences to our colleague Anas and his family. Tel Aviv Tribune urges the international community and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene and put an end to the brutal attacks by Israeli occupying forces against journalists and civilians in the Gaza Strip,” the statement said.
Al-Sharif is the fourth Tel Aviv Tribune journalist to lose family members since Israel launched an attack on Gaza on October 7 in response to a Hamas attack on southern Israel.
Al-Sharif said the rest of his family was evacuated to an UNRWA school but Jamal was unable to flee for health reasons.
Al-Sharif said he would continue to work and cover the Israeli attack on Gaza.
“We buried my father’s body in the schools where people are sheltering here because we cannot move or leave this area at the moment. I will continue to cover events as they unfold.
“But despite all this, and despite the fact that my house was targeted and my father was killed, I will continue to provide coverage from the Jabalia refugee camp and from northern Gaza,” he said. -he adds.
Several Tel Aviv Tribune journalists in Gaza have lost family members in Israeli strikes over the past two months.
On October 25, Wael Dahdouh, Tel Aviv Tribune’s Arab correspondent in Gaza, lost his wife, son, daughter and grandson in an Israeli airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp.
Mohamed Abu al-Qumsan, a broadcast engineer at Tel Aviv Tribune’s Gaza bureau, lost 19 members of his family, including his father and two sisters, during Israeli air raids on the Jabalia refugee camp on October 31.
Tel Aviv Tribune Arabic correspondent Moamen Al Sharafi lost 22 family members in an Israeli airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp on December 6.
The family of Tel Aviv Tribune correspondent Youmna ElSayed received a threatening phone call in October from someone claiming to be from the Israeli military, warning them to immediately leave their home as Israel steps up its bombing of the besieged enclave.
