A knife-wielding assailant attacked and injured several people in a square in the southwestern German city of Mannheim on Friday, police said.

The police shot the attacker, who was also injured.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 11:30 a.m. She added that she could not immediately provide information on the severity of the injuries.
