Extreme weather continues to wreak havoc in Europe, where high temperatures and intense storms are affecting several regions.

There Serbia is currently experiencing its first heatwave of the season, with temperatures expected to soar across the country. According to forecasts, the mercury could reach 40°C this week due to the advance of an anticyclone from Africa.

In Romania, residents of Bucharest have been facing a new heat wave since Wednesday, when temperatures soared to 40°C in the south of the country. The intense heat has transformed the Romanian capital into a summer scene, with many residents seeking to cool off in a local lake and at park fountains, giving the city a tropical vibe.

In Germany, thunderstorms and severe weather hit parts of Saxony on Tuesday. In the Meissen district, strong wind gusts triggered the alarm, and a tornado was reported in the town of Gröditz. Bad weather in the host countryEuro 2024 caused significant damage, destroying numerous power lines and damaging roofs.

Copernicus, the European Union’s climate monitoring agency, reported earlier this month that the previous May had been the hottest on record at the World level. This is the twelfth consecutive month of record heat, according to agency data.
