Officials in the agricultural sector in West Africa said that the harvest of cocoa in the 2025-2026 season may decline by 10%, after two consecutive periods in which they recorded numbers without the required level.

Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon are responsible for producing two -thirds of cocoa at the global level, but they are facing increasing challenges that include climate fluctuations and trees diseases, in addition to the random activities of gold mining that destroys green plants.

According to the field surveys conducted by specialists and experts in the agricultural field, the deaths of flowers and cocoa fruits that indicate the size of the crop have increased significantly last June.

According to agricultural experts, the exact numbers of crops this year will not be accurately available until the beginning of next September, although the initial indicators indicate a clear decrease in the volume of production.

Fluctuation

The decrease in production in Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana during the past two seasons contributed to the rise in cocoa prices globally to record levels during the past year, before it later declined in several countries.

And 5 years ago, Cote d’Ivoire was producing two million tons of cocoa, but it is currently expecting to produce 1.6 million tons, which reveals a continuous decline in the agricultural crop.

In the state of Ghana, the volume of production decreased from one million tons annually to less than half a million in the past year due to the destruction of trees and lack of interest in them and the spread of damage to mining and climate change.

While Ghana plans to produce about 600 tons this year, the International Cocoa Organization expected that its production rate will not exceed 500 thousand tons.
