Ex-cycling world champion charged with manslaughter after wife’s death

Australian Rohan Dennis, 33, double world time trial champion in 2018 and 2019, was arrested charged with “manslaughter” after the death of his wife Melissa Hoskins, Australian media reported on Monday. The court accuses him of “reckless driving and endangering the lives of others”.

Melissa Hoskins, 32, also a former Australian cyclist, died in hospital after being hit by a vehicle and suffering “serious injuries”, said police, who did not confirm the name of the suspect.

According to Australian media, Melissa Hoskins was hit by a pick-up driven by her husband Rohan Dennis. But the exact circumstances of the collision are not yet known.

The Australian who announced his professional retirement a year ago was released on bail and is expected to appear next March. With his deceased wife, he had two children.
