European elections: what voters want and what candidates promise


As the June vote approaches, Euronews asks voters to name one proposal they would make if elected to the European Parliament, and questions candidates on what they pledge to do if elected or re-elected.

In this episode Euronews interviews a citizen and a candidate on democracy and the rule of law. Polish Bart, LGBT+ rights activist, believes that after eight years of an ultraconservative government “the most important thing would be to pressure politicians on the transparency of citizens’ rights and the right to privacy, which is violated by big tech companies, by the government“.

MEP Sophie I’nt Veld (Renew Europe) is running for a new mandate. The Dutch woman wants to make the European Parliament a pillar of democracy. “The European Union is responding, strengthening and becoming more powerful, which is why we must also become a democratic giant“, she assures.
