European elections: what voters want and what candidates promise


As the June vote approaches, Euronews asks voters to name a proposal they would make if elected to the European Parliament, and questions candidates on what they pledge to do if elected or re-elected.

In this episode, Euronews interviews a citizen and a candidate on tax policy. Han de Goede is professor of economics in Amsterdam. If he were an MEP his first measure would be “to eliminate taxes on low incomes and replace them with taxes on profits“. He would also propose a 10% reduction in rents for middle and low incomes.

Andreas Schieder is head of the list of Social Democrats in Austria. He plans to fight for more tax justice. “Finally, we must close tax loopholes and tax havens. It is not possible that large digital companies pay less tax than any individual entrepreneur“, he assures.
