Slovenia lets victory slip away against the Serbs
A late goal prevented Slovenia from securing their first ever European Championship victory, with Serbia snatching a 1-1 draw on Thursday.
Žan Karničnik’s 69th-minute goal put Slovenia on the brink of a historic victory until substitute Luka Jović equalized in stoppage time.
The goal sparked joy among Serbian fans, who also threw flares and other objects onto the pitch.
The referee blew the whistle for the end of added time immediately after the players resumed play. The Slovenians collapsed to the ground, disappointed.
Slovenia, who drew with Denmark in their opening match, face England in their final group match on Tuesday, while Serbia face Denmark.
Serbia lost to England in their first match.
