Many EU states, including Spain, Portugal and Italy, are advising their remaining nationals to leave Lebanon immediately, if they have not already done so.

Hours after Israel killed the leader of Hezbollah in Lebanon, the European Union also advised airlines against flying over the two countries.

In a statement, the European Commission and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) recommended avoiding Lebanese and Israeli airspace at all flight levels. These recommendations are valid until October 31.

The EASA warned of “a general intensification of airstrikes and a deterioration of the security situation.”

Lebanon’s transport ministry also asked Beirut International Airport to refuse to allow Iranian planes into its airspace, after Israel warned air traffic control that it would use “force” in case of landing of a plane from Iran.
