Since this weekend, the Baltic States have been connected to the electricity provided by Finland, Sweden and Poland.
During the weekend, Estonia disconnected from the Russian network and connected to the European system. Since then, the price of electricity in Estonia has started to climb.
From 126 euros per MWh last week, the new average electricity price will be 191 euros by MWh, a summit for 2025 so far.
According to experts, this price increase is mainly due to weather conditions and markets.
“Less wind this week, higher electricity consumption due to the colder time and a slight increase in the price of gas”explains Elering, the manager of the electricity and gas transport network.
Another reason for this increase, sabotage a submarine cable between Lithuania and Sweden last February. This degradation has reduced the number of connections to the Estonian electrical network.
