Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the international community and the United Nations today, Thursday, to raise its voice more against the policies of the Israeli occupation in Palestine, in light of the ongoing occupation war on the Gaza Strip for the 342nd day.
Erdogan said in a video message to the UN-sponsored Future Summit in New York, “The voice of the international community, especially the United Nations, must be louder against the Israeli occupation policies.”
The Turkish president explained that his country will continue to stand in the face of what he called “injustice” and on the side of the oppressed and will not back down from this humanitarian position, saying, “I say it frankly, none of us can feel safe in a world where children die under bombs.”
Erdogan stressed that the “most painful” example of this is what we see in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in Gaza, “For 11 months we have been facing events in which more than 41,000 people have lost their lives, including 17,000 children, more than 100,000 have been wounded, and almost all of Gaza has been destroyed.”
Erdogan said the summit aims to strengthen international solidarity against threats to the future of humanity, and pave the way for building a peaceful, secure and just system. He stressed the need to protect the democratic system from waves of racism and far-right movements.
Erdogan explained that what we need to achieve all these goals is to reshape the multilateral system based on justice and fairness, focusing on the slogan “The world is bigger than 5.”
Last Monday, the Turkish president pledged that his country would take all legal steps to hold Israel accountable for the killing of activist Aisha Nur Ezgi Egi, who was shot dead by Israeli occupation forces last Friday during a peaceful protest near Nablus in the West Bank.
This comes as the occupation escalates its operations in the West Bank, coinciding with its war on Gaza since October 7, which has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded amid a humanitarian situation described as catastrophic and a worsening famine looming over the besieged Strip.
