Both leaders lead authoritarian regimes and block Sweden’s entry into NATO. Close since 2013, they are meeting this Monday in the Magyar capital to solidify bilateral relations.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met his Hungarian counterpart Katalin Novák this Monday in Budapest to discuss Sweden’s entry into NATO. Turkey and Hungary are the only member countries of the alliance which have not yet given the green light to the integration of the Scandinavian country.
The local press specifies that negotiations in the energy field could also take place. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán recently announced that Hungary would start importing gas via Turkey in 2024.
This visit also coincides with a special anniversary… The two countries are celebrating the establishment of their diplomatic relations, the 100 years of the Republic of Turkey.
