The airline Emirates started the week at the Dubai Air Show by announcing its decision to strengthen its fleet with an order for 90 Boeing 777Xs, representing an amount of 47 billion euros.

Asked by Euronews, Emirates Chairman Tim Clarke said: “So we have a total of 245 Boeings on order, and 50 A350s which should be delivered from next year. All this is an integral part of the development of our network for the next 10 or 15 years. » After a difficult few post-COVID years, Clarke says “demand remains very strong” for the aviation industry and that “the Middle East is very strong

in terms of economic activity, foreign investment and wealth creation in Saudi Arabia and surrounding states. »

The industry’s sustainability targets aim for net zero consumption by 2050. As for Emirates’ commitment to reducing emissions, he said: “We have set a target. We are on the right path. If we act correctly and do our best, this deadline could be brought forward or pushed back. But we must move forward in this direction. »

“We are a long way from having aircraft capable of flying without fuel emissions,” he added. “We can adopt the SAF. We can undertake many activities and that is what we do. »

As for the challenges facing airlines in the coming years, he says the biggest challenge for Emirates is its inability to grow at the pace it would like. He also gives us his advice for the future: “This sector is here to stay. You have to try to get the most out of the product. Stay focused on what you think you can bring and add value to shareholders, as well as yourself. »
