Eating grapes daily improves muscle strength in women after menopause health

A new study provided the first medical guide showing that eating grapes regularly – a cup and a half daily – can improve muscle strength and raise the levels of hormone useful for muscle growth in women after menopause, and the results indicate a promising strategy to combat muscle weakness associated with age.

The study was conducted by researchers from the University of California Davis, in the United States, and its results were published in the Food & Function Journal in May and wrote about Yurrick Alert.

The muscles begin to lose their mass and strength at the age of 40 in the case known as sarcopinia. As the condition exacerbates time, sarcopinia negatively affects the quality of life, including the degree of movement, the loss of independence, and the high health care costs.

A group of posts took full grape powder (the equivalent of Cuba and a half of fresh grapes per day) for 6 weeks, while another group took a fake powder that does not contain any useful plant nutrients found in grapes.

Women who took grape powder showed a noticeable improvement in their performance in muscle strength tests: hand grip and speed of walking. The level of the hormone is also measured, which is a hormone useful for muscle and bone growth, before and after study.

Women who consumed grapes increased by 14.4% at the levels of Irisin in the plasma, while the imaginary medicine group witnessed a decrease of 7.8% in the levels of Irisin, although these changes did not reach an important statistical significance that the research team noted a positive and important correlation between the changes in the strength of the fist and changes in the levels of Irisin from the beginning of the study to the end.

“These results indicate that eating a moderate amount of grapes regularly can help improve muscle strength in women after menopause exposed to the risk of muscle loss with age,” said Dr. Gerardo McKenzi of the University of California Davis and researcher participating in the study.

He added: “The merged of grapes into the diet may provide an easy and promising food approach to help alleviate muscle loss, a condition that does not have effective treatment options.”
