The Indonesian and Kamal Adwan hospitals in northern Gaza warned today, Monday, that they will go out of service due to the depletion of fuel needed to operate their departments, in light of the ongoing Israeli siege and bombardment and the prevention of fuel entry.
The directors of the two hospitals said that the lack of fuel puts the lives of patients at real risk of death, stressing that the conditions of the wounded will become catastrophic if no intervention is made.
They pointed out that the depletion of fuel in the intensive care units and neonatal units threatens dozens of children with death, as children in very critical conditions arrive at hospitals every day as a result of the ongoing raids.
The director of the Indonesian hospital, Marwan Sultan, said that the intensive care unit “has reached its maximum capacity and is filled with critical cases, in addition to the presence of 10 patients who depend on ventilators.”
He attributed these large numbers of patients and wounded to “the ongoing Israeli bombardment and targeting of the northern Gaza Strip in light of the ongoing destructive war that has been going on for 11 months.”
fuel shortage
Sultan said that the operating rooms are working around the clock without stopping, but he warned that the hospital is facing a severe shortage of fuel, which threatens to stop medical services completely if Israel continues to prevent the entry of fuel, which could condemn these patients to death.
These warnings come amid a severe crisis experienced by health facilities in Gaza as a result of the ongoing destructive war, the tight and continuous siege on the northern Gaza Strip, and Israel’s refusal to allow the entry of fuel, medicines, and medical supplies.
With American support, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza since October 7, 2023, leaving more than 135,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 missing, amid massive destruction and deadly famine.
The Israeli occupation forces are systematically and continuously targeting medical facilities and hospitals in various areas of the Gaza Strip, causing the destruction of the health system, a humanitarian disaster and deterioration of the infrastructure.
