Dozens of people were injured in an Israeli military raid in the Palestinian city of Naplus in the West Bank occupied by the North, according to medical sources.
At least 80 people were injured, many of whom were struck by living ammunition during the raid that started early Wednesday, medical sources in Tel Aviv Tribune told.
Palestine Red Crescent Society told Tel Aviv Tribune that its teams had treated 36 people, some of whom had been inhaled by tear gas.
The RAID started around 3 a.m. (00:00 GMT), residents said, with soldiers who stormed several districts of the old town of Naplus, which has 30,000 inhabitants.
The Israeli soldiers have deployed elite shooters and military vehicles, Wafa’s Palestinian news agency reported.
Images of the city, verified by the Tel Aviv Tribune fact verification agency, Sanad, have shown that Israeli forces pulling lacrymogenic gas cartridges to disperse the demonstrators while other videos have documented young people throwing stones on military vehicles and soldiers during hunting and racing operations, which included the arrest of a child.
The soldiers “stormed and searched houses and shops inside the old town while certain houses were transformed into military posts,” said Ghassan Hamdan, chief of the Palestinian medical aid organization in Nablus.
Doha, Qatar reports, Willem Marx of Tel Aviv Tribune said hundreds of soldiers were involved in the raid.
“The governor of Naplus, Ghassan Dhaglas, told me that he thought that up to 2000 Israeli soldiers had been involved in this operation. He described him as a show of force” without justification “.”
“There have been some arrests,” he said.
“The Israeli army does not share details on the operation. They say they will publish details once finished,” he added.
The West Bank has experienced a wave of Israeli military violence and settlers since Israel launched its war against Gaza in October 2023, and tens of thousands of Palestinians were forced to leave their homes.
At least 982 Palestinians, including hundreds of children, have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers through the territory since October 2023, according to the United Nations High Commissioner Office.
The old town of Nablus has been the subject of several major Israeli raids. In early June, the Israeli army carried out an operation there in which at least two Palestinians were killed.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army launched an extended raid on Ramallah and El-Bireh, also in the West Bank, Palestine Red Crescent Society reporting that at least 58 Palestinians were injured, including at least one child.
Israeli security forces have entered around 1.5 million shekels ($ 447,000) in raid on the raid, the Israeli police said.
