Dominican Republic: torrential rains kill at least 21 people


In Santo Domingo, the capital, a wall collapsed on vehicles at the entrance to a tunnel, killing nine people. An investigation has been opened, announced the Ministry of Public Works.

It is a natural disaster that is affecting the Dominican Republic. The torrential rains that fell on the country left at least 21 dead, including 3 minors, this Sunday, according to local authorities.

All regions of the country are affected… Numerous landslides and building collapses have been reported. Some 13,000 people were evacuated from risk areas according to the Emergency Operations Center (COE).

Dominican President Luis Abinader said at a press conference on Sunday that it was “heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the Dominican Republic”.
