Massive demonstrations took place today, Friday, in the Jordanian capital, Amman, and other cities. Participants expressed their support for the Palestinian people, demanding the closure of the American embassy in the country, and denouncing the United States’ support for Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip.

The demonstrators gathered in front of the Ebad al-Rahman Mosque on Princess Alia Street in the capital, two kilometers from the United States Embassy west of Amman, after security forces prevented the demonstrators from approaching it.

The demonstrators carried Jordanian and Palestinian flags, and chanted slogans including “America is the head of the snake” and “Resistance is not terrorism, America is the head of terrorism,” in addition to “What is the embassy doing? The whole CIA crew” and “An open world, an open world… an American we do not want to see.” “.

The demonstrators also carried banners, some of which read: “America kills children in Gaza,” and “Terrorism, genocide, and ethnic cleansing are American-made,” in addition to pictures of US President Joe Biden with “war criminal” written underneath.

On the other hand, another demonstration was launched after Friday prayers in central Amman, denouncing Israel’s attack on Gaza and supporting the resistance. Hundreds also participated in similar demonstrations in Irbid (north of the Kingdom) and Ma’an and Aqaba (south).

For about two months, Jordan has witnessed demonstrations in solidarity with the Palestinians, some of which demanded the closure of the Israeli embassy in Amman and the cancellation of the peace treaty signed with it in 1994. Early last November, Amman recalled its ambassador to Israel, and also informed Tel Aviv not to return its ambassador, who had previously left the kingdom.

During a call he received from the US President yesterday, Thursday, King Abdullah II of Jordan called for the need for the United States to play a leadership role in pushing for a political horizon for the Palestinian issue to reach peace on the basis of the two-state solution.

Meanwhile, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said, during an interview with Tel Aviv Tribune on Wednesday, that the United States must confront the barbarism of the Israeli government if it wants security and stability in the region.

Since October 7, the Israeli army, with broad support from the United States and Western countries, has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving more than 17,000 martyrs, about 46,000 wounded, massive infrastructure destruction, and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
