Tel Aviv residents are holding their breath as they fear a possible Iranian retaliation following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

On Monday, the Jerusalem Post reported that the Israeli military will deploy search and rescue battalions to major Israeli cities, including Tel Aviv.

In Israel’s second city, everything is reminiscent of a tense daily life.

Here, a shelter against air strikes indicated by signs, or even recent houses which must be equipped with a reinforced room to protect against rockets.

Tel Haviv resident laments not having a reinforced room: “I don’t have one. But I have a shelter next to the house. If the alarm goes off, the council opens the shelter. We then go into the shelter and hope it stops the bombs.”

Living in this constant anxiety has become a burden for many residents. One man explains: “First, let’s hope nothing happens. If not, we’ll go to the air raid shelter, which is nearby.”

Former missile defense chief Arieh Herzog said:

“Of course, there is never a weapon system that is 100% successful. With an extra layer, there are more opportunities for interception. But every now and then, there can be a misfire, and the threat will reach its target, which is very dangerous.”

Several airlines such as Lufthansa and Ryanair have suspended their flights to Tel Aviv for the next few days.
