The vote took place this year amid massive flooding that hit the country and claimed the lives of five people in the country.

Despite the chaos in the worst-hit areas, authorities ensured that the hardest-hit towns were able to hold their polls in the northeast of the country, where schools and other buildings used as polling stations were submerged and damaged.

In some localities, electoral operations were organized in shipping containers, tents or in the open air.

The current ruling coalition of five parties, led by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (liberal-conservative and eurosceptic ODS party) has a clear majority in the 81-seat Senate.

The second round of elections will take place next week.
