More than a month after the massacre perpetrated at the prestigious Charles University in Prague, which shocked the entire country and led to national mourning, new security measures were implemented at this faculty, which accommodates nearly 8,000 students.

On December 21, a young 24-year-old student entered the faculty grounds armed and killed 14 people and injured 25 others. This traumatic event for the country forced the government to review its security policy.

The university, founded by Charles IV in 1348, is one of the oldest in Europe and is now seeking the best way to prevent such situations from happening again.

Cameras monitor the various buildings as well as the surrounding areas of the faculty. An alert system has also been put in place, the university is currently testing it.

This device is capable of sending an SMS, calling the telephones of a given location and at the same time triggering an evacuation or confinement, that is, it provides information to everyone present in the place, and indicates the procedure to follow in the event of an incident.

The Czech Interior Minister is due to submit to the government, at the end of June, specific measures aimed at strengthening security in the country.

In the Czech Republic, the carrying of weapons is protected by the constitution, and the number of licensees is increasing.
