“Hospitals ration. Ambulances are stalling. The water systems are by the edge, ”explains the UN humanitarian office.
The United Nations Humanitarian Office OCHA warned that the fuel crisis in Gaza due to the Israeli blockade has reached a “critical point” and will lead to new deaths and suffering in the besieged Palestinian territory.
OCHA said that fuel fuel vital functions in Gaza, including water desalination stations and hospitals’ intensive care units, are exhausted quickly, with “practically there are no more accessible stocks.”
“Hospitals are rationed. Ambulances are won. The water systems are on the edge,” the office said in a statement.
“The deaths that this probably causes could soon increase strongly unless the Israeli authorities allow new fuel – emergency, regularly and in sufficient quantities.”
Israel has imposed a suffocating seat in Gaza since early March.
In recent weeks, it has enabled the distribution of food in Gaza to distribute by a group supported by the United States on sites where hundreds of aid seekers have been killed by Israeli fires.
But fuel has not entered the territory for months.
The world program manager Carl Skau also denounced the lack of fuel in Gaza.
“The needs are more important than ever, and our ability to respond has never been more limited. Famine spreads and people die trying to find food,” said Skau in an article on social networks.
“Our Gaza teams are doing their best to provide help and are often taken in cross -fires. We suffer from fuel shortages, spare parts and essential communication equipment. ”
The director of the Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City, Muhammad Abu Salmiya, said that the medical center situation was alarming due to the lack of fuel supply.
“We have no fuel left before morning. If the fuel is not available, generators cannot run and hospitals find it difficult to provide care,” Abu Salmiya told Tel Aviv Tribune.
“Blood banks, nurseries and oxygen stations do not work due to a lack of fuel. Patients will be sentenced to death if the fuel is not provided to hospitals. ”
The health sector in Gaza has already been pushed to the edge under the Israeli bombing and repeated travel orders.
Humanitarian workers and health experts have reported an increase in avoidable diseases in the territory in the disastrous humanitarian situation.
On Tuesday, the Gaza Ministry of Health said that the enclave saw an increase in cases of meningitis, a potentially fatal disease, especially in children.
“The catastrophic conditions in shelters, the serious shortage of drinking water, the spread of wastewater and the accumulation of waste leads the health situation to a new deterioration,” said the ministry.
Meningitis, which causes inflammation around the brain and spinal cord, can be caused by a bacterial infection.
In addition to the humanitarian crisis, Israel continues with its intense bombing of the territory. Medical sources told Tel Aviv Tribune that Israeli attacks killed at least 95 Palestinians in Gaza on Tuesday.
The Israeli attacks have killed dozens of people displaced in and around tents in the Al-Mawasi region near Khan Younis and in the refugee camp in Gaza City.
Experts and rights defense groups have described Israel’s current assault against Gaza as a genocide.
