Cold wave in Europe: snow and freezing rain paralyze Europe

Snowfall and freezing rain are paralyzing much of Europe. Many flights and trains have been canceled or delayed.

In Denmark, heavy snowfall and strong winds transformed the roads into a veritable ice rink. Several accidents paralyzed traffic for hours throughout the country. Rail traffic has been reduced. The authorities advise residents to stay at home, postpone appointments and favor teleworking.

The snow also caused significant damage in southern Norway. A series of accidents led to the closure of several roads. In the capital, public transport was canceled and rail traffic delayed. Oslo airport had to close its doors to him.

In France, the four departments of Lorraine have been placed on orange alert due to snow and freezing rain. Numerous accidents were reported and public transport was disrupted. An orange alert was also issued this Tuesday in Île-de-France. Road restrictions have been put in place.

In Germany, the weather caused the cancellation of nearly 700 flights at Frankfurt airport, and nearly 250 others at Munich airport. On the roads, accidents are increasing and creating chaos in certain cities. Much of the south of the country is on red alert.

The Belgian province of Luxembourg is also on red alert due to freezing rain. A situation which hampers road traffic, particularly trucks, and which has not been observed since 2017.
