An extreme cold snap has paralyzed Europe for several days. In Sweden, the thermometer fell to a record level: – 43.6 degrees.
Snow and extreme cold continue to complicate the lives of thousands of European citizens. Sweden recorded the lowest temperature in 25 years for January: -43.6 degrees in the far north mountains and -30 in Oslo. 10 to 20 centimeters of snow fell across the country.
In Denmark, half a meter of snow fell, unheard of since 2011, according to the Meteorological Institute DMI. Temperatures fell to -20 degrees Celsius, paralyzing traffic in several regions. Insurance companies received calls from nearly 2,000 motorists in one morning.
These extreme colds also paralyzed a large part of Moldova. In Chisinau, the capital, authorities suspended public transport and closed schools for the day.
Police also warned drivers to use caution after assisting numerous vehicles that left the road due to icy conditions.
