The event serves as a preamble to COP29 which will also be held in the Azerbaijani capital next November.
Action Week for the Climate began in Baku on September 30. The event takes place one month before COP29 which will also be held in the Azerbaijani capital next November.
Financing, a key issue for climate action
Businesses and environmental activists are gathered there with one objective: to agree on economic investments in favor of climate action.
“It’s really a question of success or failure for us, because without finance, climate finance and new finance, the whole global climate architecture might not be what we see today. So for us, finance is really what keeps the Paris agreement going.” said Elnur Soltanov, Director General of COP29 and Deputy Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan.
The energy transition, at the heart of the discussions
Greening of cities, water safety, sustainable agriculture…many are the topics discussed for the actors present, from very diverse fields such as politics, finance, science, and even the arts.
The energy transition, a key issue at COP29, is also at the heart of discussions focused on the search for economically viable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Among the participants were representatives of the fossil fuel industry, such as the British oil company BP and Azerbaijan SOCAR.
