It is a highly anticipated summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in San Francisco to meet his counterpart Joe Biden. This is his first trip to the United States in six years, coinciding with the 30th APEC Leaders’ Meeting. High hopes accompany these discussions, will they stabilize relations between China and the United States and inject new impetus into global economic recovery?

President Joe Biden expects the discussions to cover a wide range of topics, such as the war between Israel and Hamas, Taiwan, Ukraine and election interference. The US president hopes to improve relations between the two countries, which deteriorated at the start of the year.

“We must resume the normal course of communication, wished Joe Biden, be able to pick up the phone and talk to each other in a crisis. Being able to make sure our military stays in touch with each other. As I told you, we are not trying to dissociate ourselves from China. What we’re trying to do is change the relationship for the better.”

The Biden-Xi meeting takes place during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco, a grouping of 21 countries that represent 40% of the world’s population.
