According to the latest reports, the fires have at least 122 dead in the Valparaíso region.

190 people are missing and Chile observes a two-day national mourning.

Marco Delgadillo, resident affected by the fire: “Suddenly the wind started blowing, and the pines were on fire, incandescent, and the wind started burning the hills ahead, first there, then it started burning the back of our house here… My relatives also died, burned with little children, I can’t even go and offer my condolences.”

North of Santiago, the fire ravaged entire hills in the Vina del Mar region.

Thousands of families saw their homes go up in smoke.

Firefighters are trying to control more than 165 fires which are still active in ten regions of Chile, notably in Valparaíso by the sea.
