The 49th Césars ceremony was undeniably marked on Friday evening by the coronation of Justine Triet for her film, Anatomy of a Fall, which already won the Palme d’Or at Cannes last year.

A real triumph: not only did Anatomy of a Fall win six awards on Friday evening, including the prestigious prize for best film (see the final prize list below), but Justine Triet also became the second woman, in 49 years, to to receive the prize for best achievement, the first was Tonie Marshall, in 2000, who was crowned for Vénus Beauté (Institut).

In each of her speeches, the winner of the evening strived to choose the right words and defend her vision ofa “free, ambiguous” cinema.

But the evening was also marked by the expected speech of the actress Judith Godrèche. The French actress became the leading figure of the French #MeToo movement after filing a complaint against directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon for sexual and physical violence during adolescence.

Judith Godrèche urged at length the “curious” family of French cinema to “face the truth”. And to regret the silence of the profession since its revelations. “For some time, I’ve been talking, I’ve been talking, but I can’t hear you. Or barely. Where are you? What are you saying? A whisper, half a word. That would already be it,” he said. she throws. The actress spoke of her suffering and of denouncing this director (not cited) who, while whispering, drags me to his bed under the pretext of having to understand who I really am. It’s so nothing compared to 45 takes with two disgusting hands on my fifteen year old breasts…”

After this testimony, the winner of the Palme d’Or, Justine Triet dedicated her César for best film “to those who have been hurt and who free themselves by speaking, and those who cannot do it”.

A few hours before the opening of the ceremony, the new Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, denounced in the press a “collective blindnessa blindness that lasted for years” on the subject of sexual violence in French cinema.

Note that several winners also took advantage of the platform offered to them, including Arieh Worthalter, who won the César for best actor for calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
