Today’s poster
This is the first shock of the competition, expected since the draw. Ivory Coast will face Nigeria in a match that we hope will be intense and spectacular between two of the best squads… on paper. It remains to be seen whether Nigeria will recover, after being held in check by Equatorial Guinea.
What happened yesterday
Morocco in demonstration: Morocco, the last favorite to enter the competition, did not miss its start on Wednesday by largely taking the measure of Tanzania, reduced to ten at the end of the match (3-0).
DR Congo stumbles against Zambia: despite very clear domination, the Democratic Republic of Congo was held by Zambia (1-1). The fault lies in a goal that is both gag and sublime: after an exit far from his goal by Rodez goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi-Nzau, Patson Daka quickly played the touchline, and Kings Kangwa’s lobe ended up in the deserted Congolese cage.
In short
Ticketing, the facts are stubborn: CAF may say that everything is going well, but ticketing is THE controversy that is driving the start of CAN 2024. While full stadiums were announced, the occupancy rates are disappointing. Many supporters denounced a shortage of tickets, bought en masse by resellers, and difficulties in ordering them online. Since then, CAF and the organizing committee have only tried to reassure. But on Wednesday, France 24 was able to see that the problems persisted.
Edu, still there: scorer against Nigeria, the Equatorial Guinean Iban Salvador Edu is expected by an entire country on Thursday in the Guinea derby. He is the first Nzalang player involved in a goal during three editions of the CAN (2 goals, 1 assist) and has the national record of 19 shots in the competition since his debut in 2015.

No goalless draw: for some killjoys, the CAN would be a weak competition, full of matches concluded in sad 0-0s. The 2024 edition risks silencing the evil tongues: at the end of the first day of the group stage, we are still waiting for the first clean score.
