Éric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not be traveling to Ivory Coast. The Bayern Munich striker was not called by Cameroon coach Rigobert Song in the list revealed, Thursday December 28, of the 27 players selected for the next African Cup of Nations (January 13-February 11).

We find there in particular André Onana, goalkeeper of Manchester United, and the senior attackers Karl Toko-Ekambi (Abha FC) and Vincent Aboubakar (Besiktas Istanbul), who will however have to play without their Munich teammate.

“We all know: he is an important player. But we have to make choices,” the Cameroonian coach explained at a press conference about the Bavarian.

Two local players, Leonel Ateba and Wilfried Nathan Douala, who play respectively at Dynamo de Douala and Victoria United de Limbé, will also represent the Indomitable Lions in the competition.

“We are all convinced that these young people need to (live, Editor’s note) their dream,” commented Rigobert Song, who praises their performance and their motivation.

Cameroon is in Group C, which includes Senegal, Guinea and Gambia.
