Calcalist: The war in the north caused Israel’s economy to lose 61,000 jobs in one month economy

The Israeli newspaper Calcalist reported official data from the Central Bureau of Statistics about the significant effects of the Israeli war with Hezbollah on the labor market in Israel during last October.

The number of jobs in the private sector decreased by 1.5%, meaning a loss of about 61 thousand jobs.

The number of jobs last September reached about 4 million, but fell to 3.948 million jobs in October, reflecting the impact of the military escalation that began in September and reached its peak in October, according to Calcalist.

Wages decline in most sectors

Average wages in the Israeli economy saw a decrease of 1.6% from 13,522 shekels (about $3,540) in September to 13,309 shekels (about $3,480) in October.

Average wages in October were 6.7% higher compared to the same month in 2023, when the average then reached 12,467 shekels (about $3,270).

The data shows that fluctuations in average wages continued during recent months in a range between 13,300 shekels ($3,480) and 13,600 shekels ($3,570).
