British Minister of State for the Middle East and North Africa, Lord Tariq Ahmed, said that the killing of the first two journalists in 2024, Hamza Al-Dahdouh – the son of Al-Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh – and Mustafa Thuraya in Gaza is another humanitarian tragedy of this conflict, as he put it.
Ahmed indicated – in a blog post on the X platform today, Friday – that 2023 was the bloodiest year for journalists and media professionals in Gaza.
He added that Britain condemns all attacks on media professionals and reiterates the need to protect them.
The deaths of the first journalists of 2024, Hamza Al Dahdouh and Mustafa, in Gaza are another human tragedy of this conflict. 2023 was the deadliest year for journalists & media workers in Gaza. 🇬🇧 condemns attacks on all media workers & reaffirms the need to protect them.

Tel Aviv Tribune Media Network had condemned the assassination of the two fellow journalists and the injury of journalist Hazem Rajab, who was seriously injured in an Israeli bombing north of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, on January 7.
The network said that the assassination of Al-Dahdouh and Soraya – who were on their way to perform their journalistic work in the Gaza Strip – reaffirms the necessity of taking all necessary and immediate legal measures against the occupation forces to ensure no impunity.
The Israeli occupation forces systematically targeted our colleague Wael Al-Dahdouh and his family. His wife, son, daughter, and grandson were martyred in November 2023. He and his colleague, the martyr photographer Samer Abu Daqqa, were also targeted in December 2023.
